On this episode of Jordan's Space, Steve and the team from The Jordan Legacy we're speaking with Debi Roberts, CEO of The OLLIE Foundation, a charity that funds suicide intervention skills training for adults and organisations (including schools) working with young people.Debi had a successful career, working with Hertfordshire County Council, taking lead roles, and developing a number of different projects aimed at supporting young people.5 years ago, an experience with the family of a young girl who was suicidal, made Debi decide to try a totally different approach to the usual safeguarding approaches she had learnt during her career to date. Although this approach was not in line with the Council's safeguarding policy, Debi's says: "I didn't care. I knew this worked and I wasn't going to lose another young person to suicide!". Not only did this young person no longer feel suicidal afterwards, her family reported that she was now thriving in life.
Debi says that all roads led her to her being invited to join The Ollie Foundation, working alongside parents who have been bereaved by suicide.

Steve and the team from the Jordan Legacy chat with Paul Chambers of 'The Creative Mental Health Charity PoetsIN' as he tells his story of how living with a severe speech impediment, the distress caused by his parent's divorce when he was 5, and a period of 30 years of descending into alcohol and drug misuse, led to him attempting to end his own life.Eventually, Paul recognised something had to change but as he attempted to clean himself up, he experienced a complete mental breakdown. Paul's story is one of hope as he talks about how a chance encounter online, led to him forming a business partnership and the creation of a quite unique and creative mental health charity, which is making a measurable difference to children from the age of 8, right through to convicted criminals in prison, by helping them express their emotions and often hidden feelings and by doing so giving them hope that they can cope with life and in many cases thrive there also.
